Residence, behind the scenes

On an already small campus, UTSC’s residence population of about 700 makes up an even smaller community. Composed of 13 halls made up of eight townhouses and four floors of apartments in Joan Foley Hall, this community is small on the map of UTSC but significant to the students who call it home. To keep it running smoothly every day, residence requires a dedicated group of individuals.

UTSC is becoming “Straight but Not Narrow”

When André Pochon, Cause Creative Marketing co-owner, and his team first launched the movement Straight but Not Narrow (SBNN) in February 2011, they never imagined the widespread popularity it would soon gain. The campaign targets straight males with the message that being straight does not have to mean being narrow-minded.

With UTSC’s humanities realm rapidly expanding, the debate over the legitimacy of the liberal arts is an important one. Most disciplines pride themselves on their self-conceived notions of practicality; they exist primarily to solve tangible problems that exist in all walks of life. The major gripe against the humanities is that their ultimate goal is not always clear— what are they good for?
