“Day with the Marlies” at Ricoh Coliseum is quickly becoming UTSC’s premiere sports event with 200 of the 300 tickets already sold. Thursday’s promotional event in the Student Centre caught the attention of passerby’s with beer pong games dotted around the eating area along with star UTSC Raccoon Joe Goode providing a ‘I’m sexy and I know it’ dance number. The UTSC Raccoons went into Reading Week with a huge boost to their spirits after locking up a spot in the intramural basketball Div.1 playoffs. Success in the playoffs won’t come as easy for the Raccoons as the team may face their UTSC rivals—the Maroons—a team that went 8-3 this season and defeated the Raccoons 78-61 last October.
James Reimer may have graduated from the Toronto Marlies permanently, but UTSC students will have plenty of reason to go watch the team face off against the Texas Stars on Mar. 13. “UTSC Day with the Marlies” is sure to be a day to remember for many UTSC students—especially those who have never set foot on ice before.
“Slapshots” is actually a rehash of a column featured in the late 70s Balcony Square (precursor to The Underground) by a writer named Malcolm Kelly. Kelly went on to become an extremely successful sports journalist, and professor at Centennial College. I could deal with all that, but I’ll be damned if I get his white hair…
An outcry from UTSC’s squash community has emerged after it was revealed that squash courts would not be included in plans for the 2015 Pan Am athletics facility being built by 2014.
