In the first Scarborough Campus Students’ Union executive election since slating was ratified, the only running slate, Forward Together, emerged victorious, winning all four of the union’s elected executive positions.

Abdalla Al-Baalawy, running uncontested as the only presidential candidate, was elected for his position with 684 votes of confidence.

Newcomer Adrian De Leon won the VP Academics position with a total of 405 votes. De Leon gained 36 more votes than runner-up Filippo Raso and 348 votes over candidate Isabelle Yeadon.

Guled Arale, SCSU’s current Chariman of the Board of Directors, remains with the union in his new position as the VP External. He won a total of 437 votes, less than 15 motes more than runner-up Adil Kanji who received 423 votes.

The position of VP Students and Equity was won by Kavita Siewrattan who received a total of 655 votes – more than 500 votes ahead of Massih Bidhendi, the only other candidate for the position.

All winners are part of the slate Forward Together. Slating was ratified at the Annual General meeting on November 16, 2011.

Although the official voter count has not been released, the CRO reports that the voter turnout has grown since last year. With over 1,000 votes cast during this election, approximately ten per cent of UTSC’s population came out to vote.

The new team’s term starts on May 14, 2012. Hiring is still ongoing for the positions of VP Campus Life, VP Human Resources and VP Operations/Chief Financial Officer. Applications are due by Mar. 2.
