With the Lunar New Year taking place on Jan. 23, celebrations around Toronto are in full swing. The Lunar New Year is the longest and most important festival on the Chinese calendar.
If you’re looking for a party, The Underground has a list of activities to help you celebrate the year right.
CIBC LunarFest
The CIBC LunarFest, one of the biggest Chinese New Year celebrations in Toronto, will be held from Jan. 20 to 24. There will be various activities, such as photo booths, games, a Lunar Café, and skating events.
Scarborough Town Centre
The popular shopping mall will be holding celebrations from Jan. 21 to 22, with various events including a lion dance parade and an eye-dotting ceremony.
Taste of the World: Neighbourhood Bicycle Tours & Walks
What could be a better way to experience the Chinese New Year than through Foodies Walks? A Taste of the World offers public walking tours on Jan. 23, 29, 30 and Feb. 5, 6, 12, 13, with a fee of $40 (for students). It includes a 3.5 hour tour with food and non-alcoholic drinks provided.
Celebrations at UTSC
The International Student Centre will be holding a celebration on Jan. 23, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Meeting Place. There will be lion dances and Chinese opera performances. Other clubs, such as Novelty and Project A, will also be participating and holding activities, including fortune telling and origami folding. For people who are interested in learning about the Hakka culture, there will also be a featured guest lecturer.
