Students at UTSC were left feeling rather awesome on Nov. 17 when Neil Pasricha, author of the blog ‘1000 Awesome Things’ and the Book of Awesome series, visited UTSC. The writer told students how he got started, and why they should look for “awesome-ness” in everyday life.
Pasricha personally found the most awesome thing about UTSC to be its friendly community atmosphere. Here’s what UTSC students think is awesome about our campus…
1. Nasir, the Hot Dog Guy. Rain or shine, he’s always satisfying our hunger – and on a budget! Which other food vendor can you text your order to?
2.The Valley. Beautiful fall colours, the historic Miller Lash House, tennis courts, playing fields; all just steps away.
3. When you have a new professor who turns out to be awesome. You feel like you’re party of a special group that has the privilege of being the first students to be taught by an excellent instructor. (Too many professors to name, we can’t choose just one!)
4. Excellent programs– there’s something awesome for everyone.
5. Wildlife sightings on campus. From Pookie, The Residence Cat, to foxes, a 3-legged deer (really!) and the drop-off loop geese, it’s hard to remember we’re in the suburbs.
6. Free newspapers. Actually, just about anything free is awesome.
7. The H-Wing patio: an awesome place to study (when the weather is right) when you’re tired of the stressful study rooms.
8. Toasted marshmallow lattes at Rex’s Den.
9. Our own art gallery on campus. If you’ve never been to the Doris McCarthy Gallery, you’re missing out on a Scarborough art staple.
10. Diversity and positivity among everyone on campus. Sounds cliché, but it’s true.
11. When there’s no line at Tim Hortons. Score!
12.Having access to Robarts, U of T’s largest library, Hart House and all other buildings that are a part of the U of T family.
13. Finding an outlet for your laptop when all the rest are taken up by other students.
14. Finding the last remaining study spot in the library, computer lab or H and S-wing study carrels.
15. Being able to wear comfortable sweatpants without being judged.
16. When a professor gives the whole class extra marks on an exam.
17. Avoiding cold weather by building-hopping underground.
