This year’s fall TV season is looking impressive for comedy and sci-fi. Hey, who wants drama in their life anyway?

FOX’s latest comedy, New Girl (Sept. 20, 9 p.m.), follows a newly single Jessica (Zooey Deschanel), who is adjusting to living with three single guys as they help get her back into the world of dating. Sounds like it could be a hit or a miss; we suggest you take your chances! Other comedy gems for the fall: ABC’s Suburgatory (Sept. 28, 8:30 p.m.), CBS’s 2 Broke Girls (Sept. 19, 9:30 p.m.) and NBC’s Up All Night (Sept. 14, 10 p.m.).

Sci-fi appears to be making a television comeback this fall. Terra Nova, the highly anticipated new FOX series from Steven Spielberg, takes place in the year 2149. The human race is dwindling, and to save it, scientists build a time machine to send society to prehistoric earth. Essentially, it’s Jurassic Park meets Back to the Future (Sept. 26, 8 p.m.). Also recommended: JJ Abrams’ Alcatraz (mid-season), NBC’s Grimm (Oct. 21, 9 p.m.), CW’s Secret Circle (Sept. 15, 9 p.m.) and Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story on FX (Oct. 5, 10 p.m.).

Stay away from the ABC comedy Last Man Standing (Oct. 11, 8 p.m.) starring Tim Allen. It’s essentially Home Improvement but with daughters instead of sons. Yeah, we couldn’t sell it to you if we wanted to.

Moving on to Pan Am, which much like New Girl, could go either way. The ABC show (Sept. 25, 10 p.m.) is about Pan American World Airways flight attendants in the 1960s. It’s like Mad Men but on a plane (okay, maybe it does sound kinda good…).

For reliable returning favourites, check out the ABC comedy Happy Endings’ second season (Sept. 28, 9:30 p.m.) for your fill of the six-friends-in-the-city sitcom. Another underrated show is Hung, an HBO drama that tells the story of a high school teacher named Ray who uses his big package (if you know what I mean) to make some money (Oct. 2, 10 p.m.).

If you’re ever looking for a reason to procrastinate, just grab that remote! Not that we’re encouraging you.
