Who says ultimate Frisbee is not a sport? Melissa Lee knows it is and it trumps others when it comes to spirit.
Lively, enthusiastic, and modest, Lee is a motivational force to her teammates on the co-ed ultimate team. When she sees new players struggling with ultimate, or potential points of improvement for experienced players, she actively supports them.
She first started playing ultimate in high school where she was amazed by the “coolness” of the catches and throws of the experienced players on the team. Envying their abilities, she opted to try something new. She discovered that ultimate is not only about winning; the spirit of the game demonstrates the importance of meeting new people and having friendly competition with the opposing team.
Besides having played for five years on UTSC’s ultimate team, she has also participated in the Toronto Ultimate Club for the past three summers and plays for Torontula, U of T’s unofficial varsity team.
Though her technique is outstanding, her enthusiasm tops the charts.
