One of Toronto’s most unique attributes is its kaleidoscope of cultures and identities, and the harmony with which all of these interact and co-exist. Here at the UTSC, things are no different. The diversity of the student population is evident in almost every aspect of campus life; not least of all, the multiplicity of clubs and organizations that are offered.

Seriously, there is a lot to choose from. There are over 250 registered organizations at UTSC. The A-Z guide provided by Student Life reads more like a yellow pages directory than a club list. So whether it is archery or Zen that piques your interest, it is sure to be found on campus.

Feeling athletic, and seeking a sport that combines kick-ass competition with physical endurance? Check out the championship-winning dragon boat team, the Scartans. Or maybe deep inside that studious exterior there is a Freedom Funker waiting to dance its way out.

Looking to find a better use for your money than “drink and cookie with that” Subway meals? Perhaps you should join the Investment Society and learn how to make those loonies grow. If you’re looking for a creative way to show off your musical talents, maybe you’ll find a home with the dynamic Organized Sound.

There are clubs representing all corners of the world, from China and Korea to Lebanon and Pakistan, Latin America and the Caribbean to Armenia and Greece. If you’re passionate about world issues and want to make a difference, place yourself on the world stage and join the Model United Nations. If perhaps you prefer more hands-on do-gooding, there are numerous charitable ventures such as Oxfam @ UTSC, Students for World Literacy, Charity for Hope or Free the Children, to name a few.

Artsy much? If you are a budding Hemmingway or Picasso then definitely contribute to the Scarborough Fair, UTSC’s student-produced artistic magazine. Or channel your inner Oscar-winner as a member of the Drama Society.

For those who have always wanted to be a part of student government, have no fear, there is plenty of scope to get involved with the Scarborough Campus Students’ Union (SCSU). You don’t even have to venture out of the school’s departmental structure to get involved; there are departmental student associations for every department.

You can drop some beats as a DJ for Fusion Radio, learn about medical school from knowledgeable mentors, or even take part in a Revolution in Progress. There are also clubs for the religious and the spiritual, for the patriotic and the diasporic, for the ambitious and for the idle.

And if for some reason, you cannot find something that interests you, then it’s not that hard to start your own organization. Indeed, at UTSC, the possibilities are endless.
